Heartwarming Moment: 11-year-old Girl Surprises Her Step-Father By Changing Her Last Name

This is the adorable moment a little girl surprised her step-father by changing her last name to his as a Valentine’s Day surprise.

Angel Trevino from Refugio, Texas, changed her eleven-year-old daughter’s last name from Abila to Trevino to surprise her husband Tudy. In the heartwarming footage, daughter HaLeigh hands her step-father a letter which he reads out while struggling to hold back tears.

The letter reads:

‘I know your birthday is 13 days away but I am too excited to hold it in…

‘What do you get a man that never wants? I can sit and ponder all day but in the end, I know nothing would make you happier than what I am about to say…

‘Today 2/1/2018 [February 2] will be a day we will cherish forever as we grow old…

‘HaLeigh Danielle Abila is now HALEIGH DANIELLE TREVINO!

‘Happy Birthday and Valentines Day’

‘”You stole her heart from day one, but she stole your last name forever”‘.

HaLeigh Trevino, with her step-father Tudy Trevino – who has now had his name added to her birth certificate.

‘What do you get a man that never wants? I can sit and ponder all day but in the end, I know nothing would make you happier than what I am about to say…’ the letter reads.

Angel Trevino, HaLeigh’s mother said: ‘About 10 years ago this whole story began.

‘HaLeigh’s biological dad is not listed on the birth certificate.

‘HaLeigh was nine months old when I met my husband. She still to this day does not know that my husband is not her biological dad.

‘We will sit down and explain that to her when the time is right, at this time it’s been changing her last name and becoming a Trevino like mommy and daddy’.

HaLeigh’s biological father was never listed on the birth certificate – so mother Angel added Tudy’s name.

Angel found out the news in early February and couldn’t wait two weeks to tell her husband.

Tudy, who has raised HaLeigh since she was nine months old cried upon receiving the news.

When Tudy met Angel, he took in both HaLeigh and her two other children, and according to Angel treated them all like ‘one big happy family’.

In November, Angel decided to look into changing HaLeigh’s name and adding Tudy, whose real name is David, to her birth certificate.

‘We had looked into the process before however were told we would have to hire a lawyer and go through the courts, process, and money we did not have’ Angel said.

On December 28, Angel got a letter saying our process was ‘unable to be completed without court’.

HaLeigh was nine months old when Angel met her husband, she still does not know he’s not her biological father.

Angel says ‘my kids and I were super blessed to have found this man and become a family with him and every day I thank the good Lord for putting him in our path’.

‘I cried and cried and wondered ‘why?’ I had done everything in order and asked me what could possibly be wrong?’ Angel said.

As it was the New Year holidays Angel had to wait until January 2 to call and ask what went wrong.

Luckily, the fix was simple and Angel was able to do it without her husband knowing, while Tudy continued to think that the process was unable to be completed.

Initially, Angel was going to wait two weeks until Valentine’s Day, which is also Tudy’s birthday, to surprise him, but was too excited to wait.

‘There was no way I could wait that long, so I wrote a quick poem and handed it to him.

My kids and I were super blessed to have found this man and become a family with him and every day I thank the good Lord for putting him in our path.’
