• 1954 – Danny Cedrone, guitarist who can be heard on the famous song “Rock Around The Clock”, died 10 days after recording the record after falling down a staircase.
• 1957 – “At the Hop” was released by Danny & the Juniors.
• 1964 – The Supremes’ “Where Did Our Love Go” was released. It became their first song to get to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart.
• 1965 – The Kinks arrived in New York City to start their first U.S. tour.
• 1965 – Working at Abbey Road studios in London The Beatles completed work on the new Paul McCartney song ‘Yesterday’ with the overdubbing of an additional vocal track by McCartney and a string quartet.
• 1966 – The Hollies released the single “Bus Stop”.
• 1967 – “Groovin'” by the Young Rascals entered the #1 position in its ninth week on the chart, taking over from Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”.
• 1968 – Mason Williams released the instrumental single “Classical Gas”.
• 1971 – Carole King went to No.1 on the US album chart with ‘Tapestry’ for the first of 15 consecutive weeks.
• 1972 – Don McLean had his first UK No.1 single with ‘Vincent.’ The song was written about the 19th century artist Vincent Van Gogh. The song is played daily at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
• 1972 – The Rolling Stones album Exile On Main Street started a four-week run at the top of the US charts. The double album, regularly regarded as one of the band’s best, features Rocks Off, Rip This Joint, Happy and Tumbling Dice.
• 1972 – Neil Diamond remained at #1 for the third week on the Easy Listening chart with “Song Sung Blue”

• 1973 – Dolly Parton recorded ‘I Will Always Love You’ in RCA’s Studio “B” in Nashville. Written for her one-time partner and mentor, Porter Wagoner. The song was later a world-wide hit for Whitney Houston.
• 1976 – Blondie released their debut single ‘X Offender’.
• 1977 – Steve Winwood released his first solo album, “Steve Winwood.”
• 1978, Andy Gibb became the first solo artist in the history of the US charts to have his first three releases reach No.1, when ‘Shadow Dancing’ hit the top of the chart. Spending seven weeks at No.1 it became the best selling single in the US in 1978.
• 1978 – “Just What I Needed” debuted, It was the first of many hits for the Cars.

• 1978 – “Bluer Than Blue” by Michael Johnson took over at #1 on the AC chart.
• 1978 – ‘You’re The One That I Want’ by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John started a nine week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart. The song was from the film Grease.
• 1979 – Anita Ward was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Ring My Bell’. The only hit for the gospel singer from Memphis, making her a One Hit Wonder.
• 1980 – Led Zeppelin began their last tour.
• 1983 – James Brown, UB40, Fun Boy Three, The Beat, Curtis Mayfield, Jimmy Cliff, Marillion and Melanie all appeared at this years Glastonbury CND Festival, Shepton Mallet, England.
• 1983 – “Every Breath You Take” by the Police held down #1 in the U.K

• 1985 – The Crowd were at No.1 in the UK with a remake of the 1963 hit ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’
