6. Claudia Cardinale
Winner of the “Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia” competition in 1957, Claudia Cardinale’s beauty made her a very memorable face in the acting world. At one point, she was one of the most well-known actresses in Italy. She became known in the UK and USA for films such as The Pink Panther, Lost Command, and Once Upon a Time in the West. When she lost her taste for Hollywood, Claudia transitioned back to Italian and French cinema. These days, she can often be found speaking out on behalf of women’s rights.
7. Monica Vitti
An award winning Italian actress, Monica Vitti became one of the most famous actresses of the 20th century in Italy thanks to her role in the award-winning 1960 film L’avventura. Monica never really crossed over into English-language films, but her Italian roles won her numerous awards including 7 Italian Golden Globes and the Venice Film Festival Career Golden Lion Award. Some of her other well-known works include Dramma Della gelosia, La Notte, and Le Fantôme de la liberté, the last of which secured her a prominent place in the film history of Italy. Her last film was Secret Scandal in 1989, and after that she dabbled in teaching, directing, and acting in the theater. Sadly, Monica has suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for the past 20 years and has rarely been seen in public because of her condition.
8. Anouk Aimée
Appearing in very first film at the age of fourteen, Anouk Aimée is an award winning French actress who has been prolific in her work. In a poll done by Empire Magazine in 1995, Anouk was named one of the hundred sexiest stars in film history. She was known for femme fatale type roles, largely due to her striking features. She’s still making her mark on French cinema to this day!
