Elvis’s sudden death was big news in 1977. He left quite a hole in a lot of hearts.

In his Christmas special that same year, Johnny Cash did a tribute to the King. Along with Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, they performed “This Train Is Bound For Glory” for Elvis who loved gospel music.

The ’77 program, was taped at Nashville’s famed Grand Ole Opry, and featured rock and roll legends like Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison — one of whom didn’t get the memo about the white suit in this particular performance.
