Dolly Parton’s music is reaching extraordinary new heights as fans around the world turn to her songs following her death at age 80. Decades-old classics have surged across streaming platforms, sending several of her most beloved recordings back onto the charts and introducing them to another generation of listeners.

According to USA TODAY, the rise in Dolly Parton streams was especially dramatic in the days immediately following her death. On Aug. 26, Parton became the most-streamed artist in the world, generating nearly 80 million on-demand audio streams in a single day. Songs including “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” also reached chart positions they never achieved during their original releases.

According to Luminate data shared with USA TODAY, Parton’s catalog generated 41.8 million global audio and video streams on Aug. 25, representing a 1,549% increase from the previous day. The following day, her worldwide audio streams climbed to nearly 80 million. “Jolene” experienced one of the biggest jumps. The 1974 favorite went from approximately 196,000 streams on Aug. 24 to 3.3 million the following day and 4 million on Aug. 26. That renewed attention pushed the song to No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, far above its original peak of No. 60 more than 50 years ago.

Parton’s original recording of “I Will Always Love You” also reached the Hot 100 for the first time, debuting at No. 27. Her 1982 rerecording had previously reached No. 53, while Whitney Houston famously transformed the ballad into a global phenomenon in the 1990s.

The surge went far beyond those songs. During Aug. 21–27, Parton drew 116.7 million U.S. streams, up from 9.4 million the week before. “9 to 5,” “Islands in the Stream,” and “Here You Come Again” also returned to the Hot 100. The spike added another milestone to a career that already included 25 No. 1 country hits and inductions into both the Country and Rock & Roll Halls of Fame.

Yet the latest Dolly Parton streams tell a story that goes beyond chart records. Fans are returning to songs that accompanied weddings, road trips, heartbreaks, childhood memories, and generations of country music history. Some listeners are rediscovering old favorites, while others may be hearing Parton’s original recordings for the first time. More than half a century after she recorded some of her defining songs, the music remains powerful enough to climb the charts again. For an artist whose career centered on storytelling and emotional connection, millions of people pressing play may be one of the most fitting tributes imaginable.
