New details have emerged about Dolly Parton’s death at age 80. Representatives for the country music icon confirmed that she died on August 25 after what they described as a “brief battle with cancer.” They did not disclose the type of cancer.

According to People, The confirmation answers questions surrounding the Dolly Parton cause of death after months of public concern about her health. Parton had recently discussed kidney problems, autoimmune issues, dizziness, and dehydration, but those conditions should not be confused with the cancer diagnosis her representatives cited following her death.

Dolly Parton’s Cause of Death Confirmed as Cancer

Parton entered Nashville’s Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center on Friday, August 21, four days before her death. Her representatives said she died there surrounded by loved ones after facing cancer for a brief period.

In their statement, Parton’s team remembered her not only for her extraordinary music career but also for the generosity that defined much of her life. They highlighted her Imagination Library, which has provided books to children around the world, as well as her financial support for medical research. Her nephew Bryan Seaver announced her death in an emotional Instagram video on behalf of the Parton and Owens families.

In the year before her death, Parton became more open about her health, revealing a kidney stone infection and later missing appearances because of dizziness and dehydration. Reports also noted kidney and autoimmune issues. Still, just days before her death, she told PEOPLE that she remained focused on healing and completing future projects after spending years caring for her husband, Carl Dean.
