Why Buddy and Zack Still Matter

His on-screen romance with Kristy McNichol’s Buddy Lawrence resonated with audiences because it explored the excitement, uncertainty, and emotional challenges of teenage relationships in an honest and relatable way. After Family ended, both enjoyed successful careers. Garrett found fame with hits like “I Was Made for Dancin'” and later appeared in The Outsiders, while McNichol won two Emmy Awards and starred in Little Darlings, Only When I Laugh, and Empty Nest.
