Whoopi Goldberg attended the opening night of The Whoopi Monologues at New York’s Lincoln Center, where her groundbreaking 1984 one-woman show has been reimagined as an ensemble production featuring performers including Kerry Washington and Danielle Pinnock.

Walking the red carpet beside her was Alex Martin Dean, whom Goldberg shares with her former husband, Alvin Martin. Photos from the event quickly spread online, with fans pointing out their matching smiles and warm bond. Many remarked that Alex looked just like her famous mother, making the rare public appearance even more memorable.

A close bond that fans don’t often get to see

Although Goldberg has spent decades in the spotlight, she has generally kept her family life private. Public appearances with Alex have been infrequent, making each shared outing especially meaningful to longtime admirers. The pair previously attended the 2025 Academy Awards together, a moment that carried special significance for Goldberg.

At the Oscars, the actress reflected on bringing Alex with her when she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Ghost in 1991. Seeing her daughter accompany her once again decades later brought that cherished memory full circle. As Whoopi Goldberg’s rare appearance continues to generate excitement among fans, the latest red carpet outing served as a reminder that some of life’s greatest achievements are even sweeter when shared with family. Beyond the applause for her groundbreaking career, it was the genuine affection between mother and daughter that made the evening one of Hollywood’s most heartwarming moments.
