With Netflix introducing a new generation to the world of Little House on the Prairie, many longtime fans are finding themselves revisiting the actors who helped make the original series such a beloved television classic. Among the most cherished was the actor behind the gruff but lovable Isaiah Edwards.

The Actor Became One Of Little House’s Most Beloved Faces
Before joining Little House on the Prairie in 1974, Victor French had already built an impressive career through appearances in Westerns and classic television series, including Gunsmoke, Daniel Boone, Lassie, and The Donna Reed Show. He also worked extensively as a stuntman during his early years in Hollywood.
His portrayal of Isaiah Edwards quickly turned him into a fan favorite. The actor appeared throughout much of the series’ run and even stepped behind the camera to direct several episodes. Although he briefly left the show to star in another television project, he eventually returned and remained closely connected to the world of Walnut Grove.
His Legacy Continued Long After Little House Ended
Following the series, Victor French reunited with Michael Landon for the inspirational drama Highway to Heaven, a partnership that introduced him to an entirely new audience. Sadly, French died in 1989 at the age of 54 after being diagnosed with lung cancer only months earlier.
