The Rolling Stones are preparing to release another major studio album, and this time the project carries extra emotional weight. The legendary band confirmed that their upcoming record will include performances from late drummer Charlie Watts, captured during some of his final recording sessions before his death in 2021.
The new album, titled Foreign Tongues, arrives less than three years after the band’s successful Hackney Diamonds release. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood reunited once again to create the 14-track project with producer Andrew Watt.
‘Foreign Tongues’ Featuring Charlie Watts Sessions Holds Emotional Meaning
According to Deadline, Foreign Tongues features recordings from the beloved drummer Charlie Watts that were completed before his passing. Fans have already reacted strongly to the news, especially after learning the album also includes appearances from Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith, and Chad Smith.
The Rolling Stones Continue Building On Recent Success

Foreign Tongues also continues the momentum created by Hackney Diamonds, which topped charts worldwide and earned Grammy recognition. Keith Richards explained that the new project shares continuity with the previous album while still capturing the atmosphere of recording in London again. Ronnie Wood praised the creative environment during production and revealed that several tracks came together quickly, sometimes even on the very first take. The album will also feature longtime collaborators Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford, and Steve Jordan.
American artist Nathaniel Mary Quinn created the project’s artwork and described the opportunity as a dialogue with one of music’s most enduring cultural forces. Alongside standard CD and vinyl editions, the band plans to release deluxe versions, special box sets, and limited collector pressings for longtime fans.
