According to PEOPLE, John Travolta’s Cannes memories date back to 1994, when he attended the festival for the premiere of Pulp Fiction with Kelly Preston. The film famously won the Palme d’Or and helped relaunch Travolta’s career during the 1990s.
Now, years later, the actor says returning with Ella created what he described as a “beautiful, glorified connection” between the two chapters of his life. The new movie premiere became even more emotional when festival organizers surprised him with an honorary Palme d’Or during the screening. Travolta admitted the recognition caught him completely off guard. The actor became visibly emotional on stage as he accepted the honor, calling it a humbling moment that went beyond anything he expected.
Ella Bleu Shares A Special Cannes Experience
Ella Bleu Travolta also reflected on the unforgettable evening, describing the experience as emotional but peaceful. She explained that she wanted to stay fully present throughout the night because of how meaningful it was for their entire family.

The film itself carries strong personal significance for Travolta. Inspired by his longtime love of aviation, Propeller One-Way Night Coach is based on a book he originally published in 1997. Ella stars in the project as a flight attendant, making the collaboration especially meaningful for father and daughter. The family’s appearance at Cannes also carried memories of Kelly Preston, who died from breast cancer in 2020. Travolta previously honored her publicly on what would have been her 62nd birthday with a special musical tribute shared online.
