Formed in 1976 in New York City, Foreigner helped define the sound of a generation. Founding members Lou Gramm and Mick Jones created unforgettable songs like “Cold as Ice,” “Juke Box Hero,” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.” Though the lineup has changed over the years, the spirit of the band remains. The Foreigner Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade appearance celebrates their 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and five decades of music.

This year’s parade also carries a touch of emotion. Lead vocalist Kelly Hansen recently announced he would step away after two decades with the group. “I’m trying not to use the word ‘retirement,” he said, reflecting on his journey with Foreigner. His decision gives the Foreigner Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade performance special meaning for both the band and its fans.

The current lineup—Mick Jones, Jeff Pilson, Michael Bluestein, Bruce Watson, Chris Frazier, and Luis Maldonado—continues to honor the band’s legacy. Their upcoming appearance captures both celebration and gratitude, closing one chapter while opening another. As Foreigner takes the stage atop the Stranger Things float, their music will once again unite generations in song and spirit.
