Published October 6, 2025

Barbara Eden is best remembered for her starring role in I Dream of Jeannie, but one of her early film experiences remains especially close to her heart. At 94, the actress still speaks warmly about working with Elvis Presley in the 1960 Western Flaming Star. The project gave her a rare chance to see the legendary performer in a different light.

In a new conversation with People, Eden reflected on Presley’s talent and charm, recalling both his professionalism and his kindness. While the film wasn’t a blockbuster, she has never forgotten how remarkable it was to watch Presley on set, according to Parade. Her memories of their collaboration remain filled with admiration more than six decades later.

When discussing the film, Eden did not hold back her praise. “I remember how good he was. He was a fine actor,” she said, noting that Presley’s dramatic role required skill that many did not expect from him. She added, “The whole thing was a beautiful piece.” For Eden, Elvis Presley was more than a superstar—he was a “lovely, lovely man.”

Despite her fondness for the work, Barbara Eden revealed that she “didn’t make any money” from the film’s original release. Fans were frustrated that Presley did not sing in the movie, which impacted its success. In response, the studio added a scene where Eden danced as Presley played guitar. Even so, she remembered it fondly, saying, “I just loved working with him.”

Eden shared further memories during a panel at the 2022 Christmas Con, where she described Presley as “a delight” and “so wonderful.” She explained that, unlike many of his leading ladies, she never had a romance with him. Instead, their relationship was based on respect and friendship. Elvis Presley would even pull up a chair for her when she arrived on set—something she said was unusual in Hollywood.

Barbara Eden on working with Elvis also included a glimpse into his personal life. She remembered him mentioning “this girl in Germany” he had recently met. That young woman would later become his wife, Priscilla Presley. For Eden, these moments only underscored Presley’s thoughtfulness, both as a performer and as a person.
