The Who has officially announced what will be their last North American tour. The British rock band revealed that their upcoming The Song Is Over tour will serve as their final live appearances across the U.S. and Canada. The announcement came during a private press event at the Iconic Images Gallery in London on May 8.

With a name inspired by their 1971 track, the tour is being described as the last opportunity for fans to see the band live in person. It also signals the closing of a chapter that began in 1967, when The Who first caught the attention of Americans and helped define the spirit of rock and roll. This farewell tour is a celebration of that eventful journey.

Roger Daltrey, 81, reflected on the band’s long connection with North American fans, pointing to the early days when American radio introduced him to rock music. While acknowledging that stepping away from touring is not easy, Daltrey noted that the bond built through years of performances remains unforgettable.

Pete Townshend, 79, also shared his thoughts on the tour, appreciating their American and Canadian audiences. Although he admitted that touring has not always been easy for him, he emphasized that it was still fulfilling. Over the years, each return to the stage brought him new fans and renewed energy. With this final set of performances, he aims to honour the fans who have stood by them for over half a century.

Looking back

Remembering their late bandmates, Keith Moon and John Entwistle, Daltrey and Townshend are determined to carry the banner one last time. The tour is also a chance to connect with younger fans who may not have experienced their earlier eras. While The Who’s touring days may end, their influence will continue.
