Screenwriter Bob Gale does not want a Back to the Future sequel, and he means it! It has been nearly 40 years since the movie premiered, yet those who saw it at the time keep requesting a remake. However, Gale recently put those rumors to rest once again at Universal Fan Fest Nights, making it clear that the franchise is complete and will not be revisited in a new form.
Despite some speculation following a scene in the Cobra Kai finale that hinted at a television version of Back to the Future, Gale has made up his mind. For decades, fans have asked about the possibility of a fourth film, a prequel, or even a spin-off, but Gale insisted that none of those are on his mind. He believes the movie, while not perfect, is complete just the way it is.
Is there any chance of a remake of ‘Back to the Future’?

Bob Gale shared that reviving the franchise has never appealed to him or director Robert Zemeckis. According to him, even if the pressure from studios and corporations was intense, their loyalty to the original story would hold firm. And he is not alone. Another key figure behind the film’s success, Steven Spielberg, also respects their wishes to leave the series untouched.
Nevertheless, Gale has found joy in watching Back to the Future continue to resonate with younger viewers. He spoke about seeing them connect with the story and the realization that parents were once teenagers themselves. This theme is evergreen and relatable, which he believes keeps the original film relevant after all these years.
Bob Gale’s decision

Back to the Future: The Musical has become a global hit with shows in London, a U.S. tour, and even a Japanese-language production in Tokyo. Meanwhile, fans’ attitude to the musical has been humbling and proof that the story still matters.
Even though fans continue to revisit Hill Valley through re-watches, stage shows, and nostalgia, Bob Gale is firm on his decision: he is not interested in rebooting the evergreen movie. In his eyes, Back to the Future has already arrived exactly where it needs to be.
