When it comes to country music legends, only a few names are bigger than Dolly Parton. But now, thousands are pushing to give her more than just a spotlight or bejeweled microphone. They want her name on an airport. A petition to rename the Nashville International Airport after Parton has passed 50,000 signatures, and the numbers are still rising.

The movement started in January, shortly after lawmakers proposed naming the airport, whose airport code is BNA, after the president. But many Tennesseans are hoping for a different kind of tribute, one that honors someone they say represents kindness, community, and true Nashville spirit.

If the petition is successful, BNA will become Dolly Parton International Airport. Supporters say it’s a fitting tribute for a woman who has given so much, not just to music but to the world. One major achievement of hers is her Imagination Library, which has donated over 100 million books to children since its launch in 1995.

“Dolly has made substantial impacts on thousands of lives,” the petition reads. “It is only fitting that an institution as significant as Nashville International Airport carries the name of such a remarkable woman.” Across social media, fans, and locals are supporting the cause.

The petition is gathering momentum

Dan Dion, one of the organizers, said that Parton is someone who makes Tennesseans proud. “She really represents the best of what Nashvillians and Tennesseans can be,” he said in an April update. The group has even called on lawmakers like Rep. Todd Warner, a co-sponsor of the Trump-naming bill, to back the new push for Dolly.

This petition has proven how much Dolly Parton means to the people of Tennessee. Not just because of her music but also because of her philanthropy. Fingers crossed to see if the Airport will eventually be named after her. Either way, even being a candidate for such an honor is a great feat.
