Being born into a famous family comes with benefits, but it also has its challenges. Lola Bonfiglio, daughter of singer Carnie Wilson, is experiencing both after her recent American Idol audition. Some fans believe her family’s presence during her performance gave her an unfair advantage, and they did not hold back their criticism.
Now, her mother has come out to defend her against the cruel remarks. Carnie Wilson is pushing back against the negativity, making it clear that her daughter’s talent and hard work deserve recognition.

On March 23, Bonfiglio auditioned for American Idol with her famous family by her side. Her mother, Carnie, and aunt, Wendy Wilson, both of Wilson Phillips, joined her on stage, along with her father, Rob Bonfiglio. They performed the group’s hit song “Hold On” before Lola sang Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow” on her own.
While the judges, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, were impressed and gave her a golden ticket to Hollywood, some viewers were not pleased. Many accused the show of favoritism, calling her a “nepo baby” and arguing that her family’s presence during the audition gave her an unfair advantage. They went as far as saying she had no talent but was only enjoying the benefits of having a famous family. There were barely any positive comments on the Instagram page.
Carnie Wilson and Billy Baldwin defended Lola against the cruel remarks
However, her family has refused to take the insults and cruel remarks. Carnie Wilson addressed the backlash on March 30 during a 90s music panel in Connecticut. She expressed frustration over the negative comments, saying the criticism “pissed” her off. She added that her daughter was incredibly nervous and worked hard for the opportunity.
“We’re human, and the Internet is so cruel,” Carnie said. She mentioned that Lola wants to be a singer, and people have said terrible things that have hurt Lola’s feelings. Despite the negativity, a few supporters came to Lola’s defense. Actor Billy Baldwin, who is married to Wilson Phillips’ Chynna Phillips, left an encouraging message, telling her to “keep going” and that he was “so proud.” While opinions remain divided, Carnie Wilson stands firmly behind her daughter, believing she deserves her spot on the show.
