Wendy Williams is pushing to end her court-appointed guardianship, saying she’s fully capable of managing her own affairs. While the court hasn’t ruled in her favor, she remains firm, insisting she doesn’t belong in an assisted living facility.
Williams has spoken out, denying claims that she’s unfit to care for herself. She described her current living situation as suffocating, stating she feels trapped among elderly residents with serious health conditions. She believes she deserves her independence and has made it clear she’s ready to reclaim it.
Why was Wendy Williams placed under guardianship?
Since 2022, Wendy Williams has been under a legal guardianship controlling her health and finances. She currently stays in a luxury assisted-living facility in New York after being diagnosed with dementia in 2023. Her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, is the only person with full access to her, while family members can only speak with her if she reaches out to them first.
Her healthcare advocate, Ginalisa Monterroso, claims Wendy agreed to guardianship without realizing it would strip her of basic freedoms like using the internet or having a personal phone. Concerns about her well-being first surfaced in 2022 when Wells Fargo froze her accounts after her financial adviser said she was not of sound mind. Wendy denied the claims, stating she had been unfairly cut off from her own money.
Wendy Williams has refused medical testing to end her guardianship
As she fights for her freedom, Williams has reportedly refused to undergo medical evaluations that could influence the court’s decision. Her guardian claims that tests, including a brain scan, were scheduled for March but never happened because Wendy declined to participate. Morrissey says these tests are key to determining whether Williams is fit to manage her own life.
A source confirmed that if Wendy agrees, appointments could be rescheduled at any time. During a recent rally outside her facility, Williams denied knowing about the missed tests. When asked, she dismissed the claims, saying she’s open to discussions but won’t be pressured into anything.
