Steven Tyler might just have made his last tour as a singer. Gun N’ Roses’ former drummer, Matt Sorum, shared this update during an interview on February 13, not up to two weeks after his recent performance, where Steven Tyler and other musicians sang several Aerosmith songs for the Janie Fund.
The performance was mainly to support the Janie Fund, which helps girls who have been abused and neglected. Even though Tyler was hurt, the event was a big one, and it meant a lot to him. After this extraordinary performance came Sorum’s shocking revelation about Steven Tyler’s career. Will Tyler never tour again, as Sorum has said?
Steven Tyler will ‘never tour again’ following recent performance and hopeful fans
In the interview, Matt Sorum revealed that Tyler’s touring days are over now due to his recent health struggles and his age as limitations amidst his blooming career. He can no longer go through the stress and rigors of doing a full worldwide tour.
Being a perfectionist, Sorum acknowledged that the 76-year-old loves to go the extra mile to own his craft and deliver the best to his fans. Hence, he would not record his voice before going to the stage like other singers. He simply enjoys performing raw without changing keys to harmonize with the music.
Now 77, Steven Tyler has been performing for 50 years, with a strong desire to be excellent and perfect. “He’s like…, ‘And if I can’t do it perfect, I can’t do it.’ And I respect that.” Matt Sorum also recalled encouraging Tyler several times to sing just a few songs.
Health challenges and retirement
Steven Tyler fractured his larynx in September 2023 while he was performing, which made him postpone the band’s farewell. In August 2024, as Aerosmith’s frontman, he announced that they would no longer be going on tours.
But Tyler was determined to not allow his health challenge to be a limitation to his career and has continued pushing himself to recover. However, despite having the best team of doctors, he may not recover fully. Faced with this difficult truth, Aerosmith has accepted that it was time to retire.
