It was a pleasant surprise for the audience when Steven Tyler walked on stage at a recent Black Crowes show in London. The singer joined the band to sing “Mama Kin,” making it his first performance since being diagnosed with a fractured larynx, which damaged his vocal cord.
The 76-year-old was ordered to rest last year while on Aerosmith’s Peace Out farewell tour, which led to the band holding off on their shows altogether. Tyler’s throat was often bleeding, but this did not stop him from working as he posted photos of him working in the studio, noting that “my ears still work.”

Since Tyler’s condition requires a lot of patience to fix, the Aerosmith moved their tour dates to later this year, with The Black Crowes joining them as the opening act as planned. Their first stop will be at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh by September 20th and the last at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York, by February 2025.

Earlier this year, Tyler gave an update on his health while hosting his fifth annual Jam for Janie Grammys viewing party. While speaking at the Hollywood Palladium, he joked about taking advice “from the girls at Janie’s house” rather than his doctors. The singer created the yearly event as a fundraiser for young girls who have suffered abuse and neglect.
Amid his inability to deliver much entertainment lately, Tyler’s loyal fans and family, including his daughter Mia Tyler, have been a reliable source of support for the Aerosmith frontman. His supporters sent him letters, which he read out loud in appreciation at his watch party. “I really hope, as you recover and you’ve made lots of accomplishments, you can make many more and keep on pushing even as things get rough,” someone wrote.

Mia told PEOPLE during a recent interview that her dad has been tough as he would not stop talking. “You can’t shut him up— he can’t close that mouth,” she joked, adding that she would rather he texted her instead than have a phone conversation with him. Like Tyler, Mia also loved the spotlight and is known for her roles in movies such as the Rush Hour series and 2000’s A Little Bit of Lipstick.
