William Shatner Jokes About Retirement After Receiving Lifetime Achievement Award At 93

William Shatner received his much-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award at the 52nd Annual Saturn Awards Showcase. The Star Trek legend, now 93, was recognized for his decades-long career in film, television, and beyond. After the ceremony on Sunday, Shatner took to Instagram with a lighthearted response to the honor.

He shared a photo from the event and humorously questioned if receiving such accolades was a quiet nudge toward retirement. His post quickly caught the attention of fans, some of whom were shocked to learn about his age.

Shatner’s followers wasted no time responding to his playful retirement remark. Many admitted to thinking he was decades younger, while some insisted that retirement is not necessary while encouraging him to continue working as long as he enjoyed it.

Some of Shatner’s followers reminded him of past roles in classics like Boston Legal, which is a significant part of his impressive career. Others assured him that the award was not a sign to stop but a tribute to his incredible contributions to the industry. “If you ever wonder, ‘did I make a difference?’ You most certainly have. Don’t stop now.”

William Shatner’s Hollywood journey

Shatner’s path to stardom began with Broadway productions and feature films as he steadily built his career. His breakthrough came in 1966 when he was cast as Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek. Beyond Star Trek, Shatner starred in T.J. Hooker in the 1980s and later hosted the hit series Rescue 911.

His career took another successful turn in the 2000s when he won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role as attorney Denny Crane in Boston Legal. Beyond acting, Shatner is a prolific author and is best known in that space for his TekWar series and autobiography. He continues to work on various projects, proving that even at 93, he has no plans to retire.
