Jonathan Lipnicki became famous in the mid-90s for his iconic role as the young son of Tom Cruise and Renée Zellweger’s characters in Jerry Maguire. The classic marked the beginning of Jonathan’s acting journey as a child star.
Although Jonathan had a taste of the spotlight early, his parents, especially his mother, kept him grounded and prioritized his well-being over fame. The 34-year-old has worked with other Hollywood stars ever since, but only a few, including Tom and Renée, remain dear to him.

Jonathan recognizes how pivotal his role in Jerry Maguire was in shaping his career. His experience filming the classic provided him with a platform to learn from the best. In 1999, he had another pivotal gig, Stuart Little, starring Geena Davis and Hugh Laurie as his movie parents, and they were just as incredible as Tom and Renée.
Jonathan was inspired to explore acting when he watched his older sister practice auditions while taking classes. His parents were against the idea at first; however, they caved and ended up becoming his biggest supporters.
Jonathan Lipnicki’s parents let him choose his roles
After much pestering from Jonathan, his parents booked him a few national commercials, but he ended up on the set of Stuart Little for his debut. His parents made sure he was happy working as a child actor and would often ask if he wanted to continue. Jonathan credits his mother for nurturing his creative side, such that he never thought to quit.
Even in his mid-thirties, Jonathan still runs his lines by his mother and is currently a part of the cast of TBS’ The Joe Schmo Show, where he plays a fictional villain version of himself. For once, Jonathan gets to be the bad guy in a movie, and he relishes the rare opportunity.
