Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley’s short-term marriage was one of the most publicized unions in entertainment history. The musician and the only child of Elvis Presley got married in 1994 and captured the world’s attention with their unexpected romance. While the marriage of this high-profile couple lasted only two years, both of them described their relationship as loving and genuine.
However, decades after, Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough, shared her thoughts on her mother’s marriage to Michael Jackson during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast. She also revealed details about the allegations made against Michael Jackson and how it affected her family.
Riley Keough was oblivious to the allegations against Michael Jackson
Riley Keough admitted that as a child, she was completely unaware of the allegations against Michael Jackson during her mother’s marriage to him. She explained that her parents, Lisa Marie and Danny Keough, were committed to shielding her and her brother, Benjamin, from adult issues and conflicts. “They didn’t fight around us,” Keough noted. As a result, she remained oblivious to the controversies surrounding Jackson at the time.
She also shared that her father was likely heartbroken by the allegations against Michael Jackson. Lisa Marie Presley, in her posthumous memoir From Here to the Great Unknown, also addressed the allegations against her former husband, Michael Jackson. She denied having witnessed any inappropriate behavior. In her words, “I never saw a goddamn thing like that, I personally would’ve killed him if I did.”
Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley were truly in love
Riley explained that she was convinced that Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley shared genuine love. “The one thing I know is that they were in love, and their love for one another was real,” she said. She also discussed how her mother’s marriage to Jackson contrasted with her earlier marriage to Danny Keough. Lisa Marie’s relationship with Danny was simple, while her life with Jackson introduced her to the extravagance of fame. “At home with my dad, she didn’t have 10 million assistants or private planes. She didn’t need all of that,” Keough said.
Keough explained that this exposure to Jackson’s world influenced her mother. “I think seeing Michael’s life made her realize there were things she didn’t have, and she started to want those things too,” she said.
