Riley Keough uncovered more eerie details about her mother’s life in the new memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, including Lisa Marie Presley’s conversation with her ex-husband Michael Jackson about death.
Though they loved each other, Lisa Marie also documented the bizarre dynamic between her and Jackson, who she claimed was controlling. Their marriage would last only two years and with no children, contrary to Jackson’s wishes.
Michael Jackson feared dying like Elvis Presley
Jackson was candid about his fear of ending up like Elvis, who died of cardiac arrhythmia in 1977. He would often hound Lisa Marie for details surrounding Elvis’ demise, including how it happened and the events leading up to it.
The King of Pop eventually died 32 years after Elvis from a cardiac arrest. Lisa Marie reportedly stayed by his coffin long after the funeral service, just like she did for her father. According to Riley, it was her way of apologizing for being far removed from the pop star since their divorce.
Lisa Marie Presley did not trust Michael Jackson
Lisa Marie considered her ex-husband very calculative, hence why she did not give birth to any kids for him. She believed he was going to dump her after childbirth because he wanted to be their sole caretaker and did not want any motherly influence around. However, Jackson eventually had three children with his second wife, Debbie Rowe, whom he married shortly after Lisa Marie left.
Their disagreement over parenthood and a few other factors like sexual abuse allegations led to their split in 1996; however, Lisa Marie claimed that a near accident was her cue to walk away. She was on the family plane to see Jackson in South Africa when they nearly crashed, but Jackson did not sound sorry, and that further reinforced her decision to call the marriage quit.
