Scores of people around the world have been remembering Bob Barker, the legendary host of The Price is Right, who passed away on August 26, 2023, at the age of 99 after a 35-year run on the show. For many people, Barker is remembered not only for his TV hosting ability but also for being an animal lover.
Throughout his lifetime, he was an advocate for animal rights, which he even sometimes infused into his show. The legend also ensured that his legacy continued even after his death, as it was recently discovered that he donated a substantial part of his net worth to animal charities.
Bob Barker donated a large part of his $70 million to promote animal welfare charities
In a press statement issued by the late host’s publicist, Roger Neal, to RadarOnline, he revealed that a major part of Barker’s $70 million net worth would be going into the coffers of several animal rights groups.
Neal revealed that the donations are in line with Barker’s commitment to the animal welfare cause, of which he has been an active part for many decades. Following his death, the animal rights group, The Sea Shepherd Conservation, also honored him as they named their newly acquired anti-poaching boat after him.
Bob Barker reportedly donated more than $30 million to animal charities
Bob Barker, who amassed a record net worth of over $100 million, was believed to have donated more than $30 million to charity. During his lifetime, he reportedly gave more than $2 million to People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and $5 million to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
Speaking about how he became an animal rights advocate, the late host, in an interview with the Television Academy Foundation, revealed that although he had always loved animals, he became more involved with both his finances and platform after joining his late wife, Dorothy Jo, in an animal welfare campaign which eventually led to him founding The DJ&T Foundation, an animal advocacy organization after her demise.
