Elton John is one of the most celebrated musicians in the world. He has been making music since the ‘70s and over his career of five decades, Elton has sold around 300 million records and won six Grammy Awards. The musician retired in 2023 due to his worsening health, but despite that, he still takes up projects and appears at events.
Recently, Elton John gave shocking news about his health. During the gala performance of “The Devil Wears Prada,” Elton revealed that he has lost his eyesight after battling a severe eye infection.
Elton John recent news: musician opens up losing his eyesight due to infection
Elton explained on stage that he could not watch the show he had written the music for because of his failing eyesight, but he enjoyed the performance regardless. He also appreciated his husband, David Furnish, who accompanied him to the event. Furnish guided and helped Elton off the stage and the red carpet, little wonder Elton called his husband his “rock.”
In an interview with GMA, Elton shared that despite being unable to see with his right eye for the past four months, he has hope that everything will be okay. He also confessed that his health and bad eyesight have made him stagnant currently, as he can’t go to the studio to record music. “I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.” He went on to say he and Furnish are focusing all their attention on making sure his eyes get better.
Fans think it might be time for him to slow down
Elton’s struggles with his eyesight are just one of the many health challenges he has faced recently. In 2017, he contracted a bacterial infection during a tour in South America, and in 2022, the music legend had hip surgery after a fall at his home, which forced him to postpone several shows on his farewell tour. Speaking at the premiere of his documentary in New York in October, he joked that there’s not much of him left. He said he doesn’t have tonsils, adenoids, or an appendix, nor does he have a prostate, or a right hip, a left knee, or a right knee. “In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here,” he concluded.
Fans send in their love and prayers, hoping that Elton gets better quickly. Many of them also think it might be time for the 77-year-old to leave the spotlight and enjoy his life with his husband and their two sons.
