In an industry as cutthroat as Hollywood, Demi Moore has survived and thrived in it. She is widely known for her roles in movies like Ghost, A Few Good Men, and G.I. Jane, Demi also made history in 1995 as the highest-paid actress in Hollywood. However, her journey to the top in Hollywood has not been a walk in the park.
In a recent interview with Elle, the Ghost actress opened up about the darker side of her Hollywood experience. She revealed that she developed an eating disorder after she was repeatedly humiliated by a producer who harshly criticized her and told her to lose weight early in her career. After the incident, she was pressured to conform to unrealistic beauty standards, which ultimately left her with lasting psychological damage.

She openly admitted that it pushed her towards extreme and self-destructive behavior in her workout and diet. While Moore acknowledged the external pressures, she also talked about how she internalized them. She described that the pressure took her to a “place of torture and harshness” against herself, and she started to put almost all her self-worth on her body being a certain way.
These revelations are not entirely new; in 2019, Demi shared parts of her story in her memoir, Inside Out. She recalled that preparing for her role as a naval lawyer in A Few Good Men shortly after giving birth to her daughter Scout in 1991 marked a crisis point.
“I didn’t feel like I could stop exercising,” she wrote in her memoir, adding, “It was my job to fit into that unforgiving military uniform I’d be wearing in two months in A Few Good Men.” The role launched her into a five-year obsession with working out that consumed her as she desperately tried to meet the standards. Thankfully, the Substance actress has grown to love, accept, and take care of her body.
How does Demi Moore stay in shape now?
Now in her 60s, Demi maintains a healthy approach to exercise and dieting, making use of practices like Bikram yoga and dance cardio to stay fit and reduce stress. She also adopted a raw vegan diet which nourishes her body with plant-based foods and keeps her in shape.
It’s amazing that Demi overcame her struggles with eating disorders. What’s more impressive is that she now uses her platform to advocate for body positivity and mental health awareness. Her candid revelations have also inspired many to speak out against the toxic culture that often plagues Hollywood.
