More than five decades after, Bewitched ended, the magical series is making a comeback in 2025 as Sony Pictures strikes a deal with writer-producer Judalina Neira, who is behind hit projects like The Boys and Daisy Jones and the Six.
This revival comes after many failed reboots and reference movies, including one featuring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell in 2005, where they are cast in the reboot within the film itself, and Ferrell’s character discovers his co-star played by Nicole is a witch.
Who will star in the ‘Bewitched’ reboot?
Although not much preparation has begun for the proposed Bewitched comeback, it will come with a huge change in the humor and cast. No casting announcements have been made so far, but the lead character, Samantha, will be the priority once the script is ready.
For now, it is not certain where fans can stream or watch the reboot; however, the deal with Neira’s production company, Famous Last Words Productions, reportedly aims to make the drama series for both cable and streaming. It would be Neira’s first collaboration with Sony, which does not have its viewing platform either.
What changes will the ‘Bewitched’ reboot feature?
While the original Bewitched, which aired for eight seasons from 1964 to 1972, was a half-hour comedy show, the upcoming reboot will likely be an hour-long for each episode, featuring less humor reminiscent of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s revival on Peacock.
Fans can expect more drama, but with comedic elements like Neira’s popular productions are known for. Meanwhile, child star Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha in the ‘60s classic, recently revealed who her favorite TV dad was between Dick York and Dick Sargent, ultimately going with the former. She now lives a more private life as a lifestyle writer, autism advocate, and eco-friendly entrepreneur. She has yet to comment on the reboot but recently reminisced about her time filming during the premiere’s 60th anniversary in September.
