McDonald’s really knows how to get the attention they need at every time with their strategic business marketing. Ahead of the 30th anniversary of the iconic ’90s sitcom series, Friends, the fast food restaurant flagged off their plan to celebrate the series with a dedicated themed Happy Meal to pay tribute to its enduring legacy.
The special meal will include a themed art piece and collectibles of the beloved series characters of Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe. However, the Happy Meal will only be available in Spain. It seems McDonald’s is leveraging the location restriction of the Happy Meal to drive sales in their outlets in that region as Friends fans all over the world and rare art collectors are making their presence known online as they bid for the Friends-themed art pieces from resellers. This implies that the more bids there are, the more patronage there will be for McDonald’s.
The ‘Friends’-themed collections are selling for high prices
Due to the high demands of the classic Friends-themed collections included in the McDonald’s Happy Meal, Spain-based sellers are hoarding the art pieces to drive the price and create artificial scarcity for the widely sought after pieces.
Each of the pieces is now up for grab online for about $100 and those in possession of the complete characters sell for as high as $1,000, and it is projected to increase over the coming weeks.
‘Friends’ will be forever green
Friends will always resonate with viewers even Gen-z’s love the movie despite being in the early ’90s; hence it isn’t surprising that the series has a wide cult-following. The sitcom teaches values about friendship and fans can’t get over the humor displayed by different characters in the movie.
With the recent death of one of the stars in the movie, Matthew Perry, who starred as Chandler Bling. Fans and viewers are more endeared to the movie as the character was a fan favorite, and the ratings have also gone up since Perry’s death. it is not surprising that McDonald’s is leveraging the show’s popularity to also promote their business.
