After a long day of signing autographs at a convention in Nashville, baseball legend Pete Rose was found dead by a family member in his Nevada home. The 83-year-old seemed just fine at the event, where he took photos with his former Big Red Machine teammates.
Pete, who was in his wheelchair throughout, was also joined by Cincinnati Reds’ Dave Concepcion, Ken Griffey Sr., George Foster, and Tony Perez. Legends from other sports, including wrestling stars, were also present to meet with fans and get their memorabilia signed.

Autograph signing events have been a norm for Pete since his lifetime ban from baseball in 1989; however, his last appearance was touching as he showed no signs of what was to come. He wore a white T-shirt, which he accessorized with a matching Gucci baseball cap and stylish gold jewelry.
Making Pete’s passing even more haunting is the fact that it occurred on the final night of the 2024 MLB regular season. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Pete’s cause of death a result of Hypertensive and Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease, adding that he also suffered from Diabetes Mellitus.
Life after Baseball
Pete’s baseball career lasted 23 years, with most of it spent as a Cincinnati Red in the ‘70s before joining the Philadelphia Phillies. He then left behind his player career in the mid-80s to become a coach and manager, which was short-lived due to surrounding controversies.
Pete was accused of gambling, leading to a permanent ban from the sport in August 1989. This also ruined his chance of making the Baseball Hall of Fame despite his trailblazing records. There have been reactions from former teammates and fans on social media, who are devastated by the sudden news of the sports legend’s passing.
