Art Garfunkel is now bandmates with his 33-year-old son Art Garfunkel Jr., as the duo teamed up for a new album fittingly titled Father and Son. This marks Art’s first album in 7 years, and he is proud to be making it with his son, who is also a successful musician in Germany.
Before now, Art was the other half of the famous Simon and Garfunkel band of the ‘60s until their breakup a decade later. Although they both reunited on multiple occasions, they seemed to grow apart since their last gig together in 2010.
Art Garfunkel confesses to missing his former bandmate and would love to sing with him again
While promoting his latest album, Art admitted to missing Simon, who released his own Seven Psalms in April 2023. Art noted that they have yet to see in the last few years; however, he hopes their friendship rekindles as he recently reached out.
Although Simon planned to retire last year, his success with Seven Psalms birthed another set of projects, including a new track, some guitar pieces, and another album with his wife, Eddie Brickell. Art’s new release features a Simon & Garfunkel remake titled “Old Friends,” where Art. Sr. takes his old friend’s lower harmonies.
What happened to Simon & Garfunkel?
Although they made good music together, Art and Simon’s relationship was marked by creative differences and personal disagreements, which ultimately tore them apart. Months ago, Simon detailed their relationship in the MGM+ documentary In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon, saying they had an uneven partnership.
The duo hit a rough patch after releasing Bridge Over Troubled Water, with Simon fed up with handling more of the work writing songs and running studio sessions, while Art stayed in the control room with producer Roy Halee passing verdicts over songs. Although saddened by the ensuing events, Simon called their friendship his first real one.
