The Stylistics will perform for the first time in 50 years at the Carnegie Hall this fall, as part of their Falling In Love With My Girl tour, which kicks off in October. They will be bringing back classics like “You Are Everything” and “Betcha by Golly, Wow,” to the audience at the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage.
Attendees can expect to be serenaded with more hits including “Break Up to Make Up,” “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” “People Make the World Go Round,” and “I’m Stone in Love with You,” as the iconic group does their streak in the historical venue.
The Stylistics are coming back to Carnegie Hall
The R&B group came to be when singers Russell Thompkins Jr., Herb Murrell, Airrion Love, James Smith, and James Dunn came together in 1968, and in a few years, their music was leading the charts. By the mid-’70s, they already earned five gold singles and three gold albums.
Their success led to their first performance at the Carnegie Hall in 1974, after they had done a record-breaking 12 consecutive top-ten hits. The unique falsetto from Russell, combined with their producer Thom Bell’s touch, gave them an edge that set the trail for R&B music in the ‘70s.
What to expect
Airrion issued a statement expressing their enthusiasm ahead of their performances this fall. He also admitted that they never expected to make it so far when they birthed their band as high school boys. In the late ‘60s, they were members of two different Philadelphia groups—The Percussions and The Monarchs—coming together as one.
The tour will open with a tribute by Tom Elton to Elton John, which will be performed by Tom Cridland. Fans can get their tickets starting at $26.50 on the Carnegie Hall website. The tour will run from October 3rd—- at the MotorCity Casino Hotel, until next year.
