Reba joked about auditioning other people to play Melissa’s role, to which the 53-year-old responded, saying she assumed Reba was eager to work with her. Melissa expressed her excitement for her Emmy debut, noting that she always watched the event from her couch in sweatpants until now.
Life after ‘Reba’
Melissa is famous for playing Barbra Jean alongside Reba’s Reba Hart in Reba, which lasted from 2001 to 2007. The show was canceled in season 6 due to the merging of WB with UPN to form The CW. After the series’ sudden conclusion, Melissa anchored Comedy Stage and Redneck Dreams for CMT, with her comedy career taking off impressively.
Reba continued to focus on her music after her show ended, even inviting Melissa as an opening act on her tour in the same year. She earned a Golden Globe nomination for Reba and continued with her second TV series, Malibu Country, until 2013, all while making music.
