Tito Jackson and his best friend Terry Harvey Maltbia were in Gallup, New Mexico, and on their way to Tito’s Oklahoma ranch when he began complaining about chest pain and telling his friends that “he couldn’t breathe” and “wasn’t feeling good.” The duo had set out on a road trip alongside their other friend, Ronald Balfour, and they made a stop at the American Heritage Plaza shopping center when the incident occurred.
Their journey was interrupted by the emergency, which led to Tito being rushed to a local hospital. Harvey recalled their last nice time together, filling up on turkey and chicken with the intention of continuing their long drive to Oklahoma in the rain.
Tito Jackson’s death was unexpected
Due to the unplanned detour, Tito missed his gig at the Boys & Girls Club in Atlanta, and in a few hours, he was confirmed dead despite up to seven doctors trying to save his life. His remains will be transported to Albuquerque from the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator for further examination.

The rest of Tito’s friends decided to complete the journey in his honor and returned the vintage vehicle they used to his Claremore ranch, which became his residence earlier this year. Tito’s family friend and former manager, Steve Manning, also confirmed the horrific news of the singer’s passing.
Tito was a founding member of the famous Jackson 5 band, which the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, was a part of. In 2003, Tito paid more attention to his solo music career, performing Blues at various clubs and locations. A few years later, Tito joined vocal coach CeCe Sammy, musician Stewart Copeland, and DJ Trevor Nelson on the BBC’s celebrity singing show, Just the Two of Us.
Tito’s career hit a milestone in 2016 with his first solo single, “Get It Baby,” which made the Billboard chart. His music career is marked by multiple collaborations and performances, including last year’s “Attitude” with Brazilian artist Natalia Damini. Tito is survived by three children, Taj, Taryll, and TJ, and nine grandkids.
