Mick Fleetwood Opens Up About Struggling With Loss Of Fleetwood Mac To This Day

by Peace A

Published July 18, 2024

Fleetwood Mac's reunion

In a recent interview with Mojo, Mick Fleetwood expressed his desire to see the Fleetwood Mac band come together again. However, his thoughts may remain wishful thinking, as Stevie Nicks has been clear about her stance to stay off the group after Christine McVie’s passing.

Mick hopes his former music partners mend their relationships, calling for Stevie and Linsday Buckingham to settle their differences. He regrets that they never gave their fans a fitting farewell tour due to McVie’s death and the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with their last being 2019’s An Evening With Fleetwood Mac.

Why did Fleetwood Mac break up?

The talented music group was ravaged by interpersonal feuds fueled by affairs, drug abuse, mistrust, and even physical violence on a few occasions. It all started when guitarist Bob Weston started seeing Mick’s wife, Jenny Boyd, leading to their divorce and Weston’s exit from the group.

Stevie and Linsday took the band to a whole new level with hit songs like “Rhiannon” and “Over My Head.” At the same time, McVie and her husband John were headed towards a split, as the former began seeing their lighting director, making already existing tensions worse. Lindsay and Stevie also had relationship struggles of their own, and all these pockets of resentment led to the group’s on-and-off disbandment over the years.

Life has not been the same for Mick since losing his wife, his band and his restaurant on his Maui home island to wildfires. He assured much progress with renovating affected areas and getting his food spot back up again. Meanwhile, Mick is also going back to his musical roots as his first solo album in 20 years is set for release soon.

Stevie has pursued her solo career and earned multiple recognitions so far, including a double induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She has remained  relevant across generations, collaborating with new-age singers like Miley Cyrus on 2020’s “Edge of Seventeen” and “Midnight Sky.”
