Television icon Shannen Doherty passed away on July 13 at the age of 53. Following her death, several co-stars have taken to social media to pay tribute to Doherty, in particular her former colleagues from Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed. She played Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990 to 1994. In Charmed, she maintained the role of Prue Halliwell for the fantasy drama’s first three seasons.
Doherty’s passing follows a years-long struggle with cancer. She had first been diagnosed in March 2015 and by April 2017, announced that she was in remission. Sadly, in 2019, it returned. Doherty officially announced her diagnosis of metastatic stage 4 cancer in 2020.

Following her death, Doherty is being remembered by her former colleagues on Beverly Hills, 90210. Jennie Garth, who played Kelly Taylor, mourned, “Our connection was real and honest,” adding, “We were so often pitted against each other, but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship, which was one built on mutual respect and admiration.” This is in reference to rumors of the cast not getting along with Doherty. Kelly accompanied her tribute with a throwback photo.

In his own tribute post to Doherty, Brian Austin Green, known as David Silver in the series, penned, “Shan. My sister… You loved me through everything. You were a big part of my understanding of love. I’ll miss you more than I know how to process right now. Thank you for the gift of you.”
Jason Priestley, to whom Doherty was the TV sister of Brandon, said in tribute, “Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen. She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.”
Elsewhere, Doherty received tributes from another set of TV siblings.

Doherty left Charmed after a whirlwind falling out that is still debated today, with some reports suggesting Alyssa Milano got Doherty fired in a grim ultimatum with producers. However, Milano, who played Doherty’s sister, Phoebe, was quick to remember her co-star after Doherty’s passing.
“It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship,” Milano acknowledged in a statement shared to Fox News Digital, “but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of. She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”
Rose McGowan replaced Prue, not taking over the role but rather playing the half-sister to the original trio, Paige Matthews. She, too, paid homage to Doherty. “A true lion heart,” McGowan praised, “What a warrior. Your daddy is holding his best girl now. Love to your mama, your dog and all who love you fiercely. Love to Holly. Love to all of your legions of fans that I know you loved right back. If there was anyone who looked squarely at death and said no thanks, it was you dear Shannen. My head bows to you brave one. All love forever.”
By time of writing, Holly Marie Combs, who played the middle-turned-oldest sister Piper in Charmed, has not issued a public statement or social media post. However, Doherty was also remembered by Brian Klause, who played Leo Wyatt, the guardian angel to the sisters. “You showed me what strength is,” he posted on Instagram. “You taught me to be fearless and live with purpose. To know your value and stick to your determinations. Forever loved! Truly heartbroken.”

Doherty also forged a sisterhood through friendship with Sarah Michelle Gellar, who has voiced her devastation at the actor’s passing. “How do you possibly find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship?” Gellar began her tribute. “I keep reminding myself it only hurts this much because, there was so much love. Thank you, for all your kind words and support. I love all the messages about how @theshando was important to you. So let’s honor her.”
She added, “More than anything, Shan loves animals, especially dogs. In her memory let’s support our favorite animal charities. Whether that’s donating money, stopping by your local shelter and just offering cuddles and walks to animals housed there or even just tagging them in the comments so other people can learn about their work. I know that would make our girl happy (and [elicit] that deep throaty laugh we all loved).”
