The 77th Cannes Film Festival featured an opening ceremony and screening of The Second Act, and several movie stars, including Jane Fonda, were in attendance. Fonda stormed the red carpet wearing a black long-sleeved jumpsuit with bedazzled floral detail, accompanied by a long animal print coat.

The 86-year-old added more glam to her appearance with a bold face consisting of a red lip and a touch of silver with her fabulous hair, shoes, and Pomellato jewelry. The mother of three oozed what is famously called the “mob wife aesthetic” as she strutted the Palais des Festivals alongside her fellow celebrities.

Also joining Fonda at the event was her mentee, Meryl Streep, who arrived on the red carpet in an all-white Dior Haute Couture dress, which she accessorized with platform heels and a pair of dangling earrings. Fonda has inspired Meryl in Hollywood since they collaborated on the latter’s film debut in 1977’s Julia.

Meryl has expressed her gratitude to Fonda, crediting the 9 to 5 actress for “opening more doors than I probably even know about.” Fonda has also named Meryl one of her most admired actresses, along with Annette Bening and Nicole Kidman. Fonda helped pave the way for more women in entertainment by co-founding the Women’s Media Center and the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power & Potential.

Jane Fonda’s secrets to graceful aging

Despite facing numerous health conditions like osteoporosis, cancer, and bulimia during her acting career, Fonda has maintained a positive outlook on life and has no plans to retire soon. She noted that her work and impact help her avoid “depression and despair,” hence her motivation to keep working, adding that she finds it more enjoyable “now more than ever.”

Contrary to society’s outlook on aging, Fonda feels “lucky” and has refused to give in to “all that bullsh*t about getting old.” She pointed out that her line of work as an entertainer caters to varying demographics and would require women like herself in projects as well. To remain productive, the two-time Oscar winner maintains her body by engaging in resistance training, yoga, and cross-country skiing.
