Bindi Irwin’s Daughter Grace Mistakes Uncle Robert Irwin For Late Dad Steve

Bindi Irwin was at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, for the Wildlife Warriors Steve Irwin Gala over the weekend. While speaking in honor of her late father, Steve Irwin, she revealed the cute mixup her three-year-old daughter often makes about her grandpa.

Bindi said that her baby girl, Grace Warrior, often mistakes her uncle Robert for Steve, who she used to call “grandpa crocodile.” It is no news that Robert resembles the late crocodile hunter, who died on the job while filming in the Great Barrier Reef in 2006.

Bindi credited Steve and her mom, Terri, with being effective parents. She has now carried on these lessons to raise Grace, whom she shares with her husband, Chandler Powell. She thanked her parents for being “there for Robert and me 100% of the time,” regardless of “what was happening in the world, with our conservation work.”

The 25-year-old also considers it cute that Grace knows her grandfather to be an animal lover despite never meeting him. She ensures to show her videos of Steve, and “so many documentaries” to build a connection between them. “It’s so fun to watch her study him. I didn’t realize how much Dad’s passion for life and his animated facial expressions— I mean, they captivate her,” Bindi told PEOPLE in 2022.

Two decades later

It has been about 18 years since the Irwin family lost Steve. However, they have taken it upon themselves to continue his legacy in animal and wildlife conservation. Bindi and her brother marked the last Steve Irwin Day on November 15 on social media with touching tributes to the selfless icon who died from a stingray attack.

Fans also joined the kids in remembering the “Wildlife Warrior” while commending them for keeping his passion alive. Steve’s widow, Terri, has opted to remain single since his passing as she has enjoyed a “big, big love…enough to last a lifetime” with Steve. The fifty-nine-year-old mother of two has been rumored to have dated Russell Crowe and Richard Wilkins, however she debunked such reports and noted that she is way too busy for a new romantic relationship.
