Comedy Legend Mike Myers Makes Rare Public Appearance Sporting Short Grey Hair

Following a year-long hiatus from the spotlight, Austin Powers star Mike Myers showed up to the 49th American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award Gala in Los Angeles wearing a gray buzz cut as opposed to his signature shaggy brown hair. The actor looked good in his black two-piece suit, which he accompanied with a white shirt and black bowtie.

The ceremony marks Mike’s first event attendance in a year, making his presence a delightful one indeed. The 60-year-old appeared welcoming as he stopped to pose with fans while making his way into the Dolby Theatre. He also wore a mask upstage and took it off to reveal his hardly-seen face before giving a speech.

Mike’s last on-screen appearance was for David O. Russell’s Amsterdam in 2022. He also starred in the Netflix series The Pentaverate in the same year before withdrawing from the spotlight. There were rumors of a fourth installment of Austin Powers. That said, the film icon said he can “neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project, should it exist or not exist” on a May 2022 episode of The Jess Cagle Show. “Non-confirmed confirmation confirmation,” he quipped.

The actor has enjoyed his private life with his wife Kelly Tisdale and their three children— Spike, Sunday, and Paulina. Mike once told People that his kids are hardly impressed by his inspiring Hollywood career. “They’re remarkably unexcited about anything I do. You know, which is great,” he told the outlet. Mike attended the AFI awards ceremony without his family, however, awardee Nicole Kidman was present with her husband Keith Urban, their kids, and other relatives.

Mike was one of the most successful names in the ‘90s comedy scene with his memorable time on Saturday Night Live and Wayne’s World. “I started on SNL in February ’89 and this was around May of ’89. I remember Steve Martin was the host and I couldn’t believe it when he was talking to me,” he recalled during SNL’s 40th anniversary in 2015, adding that Wayne’s World’s “Gulf War” episode was the craziest show moment of his career.

The father of three recalled his first comedy sketch written by Al Franken, which also featured actor John Malkovich. “I was terrified. Because it really is live TV, and it is actually quite terrifying,” he admitted. True to his fears, the episode “You Mock Me” did not really appeal to the audience, however, it introduced a version of him that fans would come to love for the next six years on SNL and Austin Powers.
