Peter Frampton has experienced different life and career challenges, with the most recent being his health battle with Inclusion Body Myositis(IBM)—a progressive autoimmune musculoskeletal disorder. Despite the deterioration in his health, the singer has refused to retire as he still serenades his fans with his stage performance.
Frampton who recently turned 74 last month reminisced about his life and how his failing health is affecting his music career during an interview days before the celebration. He also shared his struggles with how difficult it has become to maintain his style of music.
Peter Frampton has maintained his style of play despite crippling disease
In an interview with The San Diego Union-Tribune, Frampton revealed that IBM has significantly affected his ability to fully control his fingers, a skill he once had mastered. Despite these challenges, the 74-year-old is passionate about maintaining his style and has improvised new ways as he is a “fighter” and won’t allow his health struggle to limit what he can do.

Not only is Frampton developing his skills, but he has been actively doing his best to get himself together since his IBM diagnosis in 2015. His mental health took a hit following the news as he was in denial at first and later he started having self-doubt about his skills. The feeling became overwhelming and Frampton quit music in 2019 after his Finale: The Farewell Tour, however, he didn’t enjoy life off-stage and it seems he had already had time to accept the things he can’t change, so he returned to performing three years later.
Thankfully, Frampton has fully acknowledged his health situation and he is taking things slowly now with the help of his fans who are his main support system. “I can’t believe the audiences and I can’t believe where I am at in my career at this point,” he shared. “I never thought I’d be back playing at this level. So, every day is a great day for me.”
Due to his strong will and persistence, his fans have also been noticing the improvement in his style of play and he is happy about that. “Well, I’m getting people saying I’m playing better than I used to, which I don’t understand,” he confessed. “It was a re-assessment of what’s important to me: to not play and be able to get that (previous) level of enjoyment, or to play and be slightly different.”
