Less than two months ago, former NFL star and actor O.J. Simpson gave an update about his health via X, formerly Twitter, after news of him undergoing chemotherapy made rounds online. “Let me take a moment to say thank you to all the people who reached out to me,” he said in the snap, adding that it “was a beautiful day in Las Vegas.”
While sitting at a poolside wearing a 49ers jersey and baseball cap with a golf brand logo, the late Simpson assured fans of his improving health, and thanked them for “those good positive words.” Although he was in high spirits in the clip, Simpson looked sickly and frail, and viewers were worried about his appearance.
Last May, Simpson broke the news that he had prostate cancer and “had to do the whole chemo thing.” In his last clip, he claimed to be “healthy,” and promised to be back and active soon. “Obviously I’m dealing with some issues, but hey, I think I’m just about over it and I’ll be back on the golf course hopefully in a couple of weeks,” he explained.
A few days apart from his last posted video, Simspon also addressed speculations that he was in hospice care while speaking from the driver’s seat of his car. “Hospice? Hospice?! No, I’m not in any hospice, I don’t know who put that out there,” he said with a chuckle. He even added that he was set to have “a ton of friends” over for the Super Bowl.
Sadly, Simpson gave in to cancer, and his sudden death was announced via the same social media account he had posted assuring videos to in February. “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren,” the statement reads. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
Before his prostate cancer diagnosis, the ex-NFL player — who was acquitted of double murder — suffered heart-related issues that he reportedly thought would kill him; however, he denied having a heart attack. “O.J.’s got it in his head that he’s going to die from a massive heart attack. It’s driving him crazy and adding even more stress to his troubled life. He believes he is dying in plain sight and the end is near,” a source had revealed. The father of four left behind four children— Arnelle, Jason, Sydney, and Justin, at age 76.
