Bob Dylan’s Epic Response To Heckler Who Yelled ‘Play Something We Know’ From The Audience

During a recent appearance at the Broward Center For The Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, singer-songwriter Bob Dylan encountered a dissatisfied fan from the crowd who loudly demanded that he “play something we know.” Bob was just a few songs into his performance when he got the unusual feedback, however he was not fazed.

The award-winning singer, who has hits like “Blowin’ In the Wind” and “Like A Rolling Stone” to his credit, has been on the road for his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour, which kicked off in November 2021. His performances, which are set to wrap up by April, have been a topic on social media, particularly his recent interaction with the yelling concertgoer.

Bob was just about to sing his 1971 classic “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” when someone from the audience asked that he do more familiar songs. The incident made it to X, formerly Twitter, via a user who wrote, “This is WILD. At Bob Dylan’s concert in Ft Lauderdale on Friday, a woman yells ‘play something we know!’”

Bob immediately puts a spin on the song by singing its lyrics to the tune of Irving Berlin’s “Puttin’ on the Ritz.” “My brother, who was there up close, said Dylan clearly heard the woman, looked right at her, and looked like he was about to say something before he began the song. It’s an absolutely incredible version!” the user gushed.

The delighted fan speculated that Bob and his team may have planned the moment for a more interesting performance. “I’m not implying that Dylan came up with that arrangement on the spot. He and the band had clearly worked it out in advance,” they explained. “But it does feel as if he’s playing it directly in response to what she said. It’s the ultimate rebuttal.”

Many others agreed, saying it was a “genius” act, and praised Bob for being “brilliant” as predicted. “No-one like Bob,” someone gushed. “Didn’t she know, every song he plays, we know, they’re his #masterpieces and we know every one of them…” another added, with someone else responding that “nobody tells Bob what to play.”

“Bit of Dylan magic,” they exclaimed.
