As veteran Hollywood actress Tippi Hedren turned 94 a few weeks ago, her daughter Melanie Griffith celebrated with a fun note and rare photos of the Marnie star. “Yesterday Mom, aka MorMor, turned 94!! Always up for a party! Happy Birthday, Mama Tippi,” Melanie’s caption read.
Tippi Hedren looked chic and colorful in the photos as she sported a pink cardigan with matching lipstick and nail polish. She also wore huge glasses with a sprinkle-covered frame that read, “CAKE TIME!” and had bold jewelry on her neck and wrists. True to her eyewear, Hedren held up some cake to the camera, looking glad and ready to dig in.
Hedren spoke to PEOPLE about her simple but warm birthday celebration, which she seemed to enjoy as a mother and grandmother. “It may not be exciting to the rest of the world, but…it’s the perfect way to celebrate,” she told the outlet. Speaking of being a matriarch to a line of powerful women in the entertainment industry, Hedren has laid a solid foundation for her daughter and granddaughter, Dakota Johnson, to build on.
Melanie expressed that her mom greatly inspires her, as her daughter is by her during an interview with Vanity Fair after Hedren’s 2016 memoir release. “The three generations just made me think about Mom, born in 1930, and me, in the ’50s, and Dakota, in the ’80s,” she said. “The progression of life is really beautiful. She became an example of what to never let happen in my life. Hopefully, I’ve passed that on to Dakota— to be strong in your work and in yourself.”
Melanie’s followers and celebrities like Fruitvale Station’s Octavia Spencer were in the comments to wish Hedren a happy birthday. “Still stunning. Happy Birthday, Tippi!” Octavia wrote. “Happy Birthday!!!!! Sending so much love!!!!!!” reality TV star Kris Jenner added. Nancy Sinatra called her “gorgeous,” and many fans agreed by liking the reply.
Hedren has remained a beauty after many decades in the industry despite the changes that come with age. Melanie mentioned that she took a cue from her mom when it comes to maintaining herself and she has been better for it. “My mother has always taken impeccable care of herself. Through that, I learned to take care of my skin,” the Crazy In Alabama star said.
