Disney retired its foremost character, Mickey Mouse, in The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse last year; however, a new Mickey will debut in season three of Mickey Mouse Funhouse, premiering on February 23. Toonhive confirmed the news on X, stating “Disney Junior & Disney +” as the platforms to watch.
Mickey Mouse Funhouse started in July 2021, and thanks to a positive reception from the audience, it is only right that more follow. More interestingly, Mickey’s comeback makes it even better, seeing that the company initially dropped him for good.
Mickey has been the center of the animated series The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, alongside Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Daisy Duck, and others. After the show ended last summer, it was time to say goodbye to the beloved character officially.
In its final episode, Mickey collaborated with his black-and-white version of Steamboat Willie, which entered the public domain weeks ago. Following this episode, there was no new content featuring the mouse. The Mickey Mouse series has received much recognition, including multiple Emmy awards and Annie awards throughout its run across various creations.
Although Mickey got retired and picked up again, his Steamboat Willie version entered the public domain on January 1, 2024, after 95 years of copyright ownership. In no time, modified creations of the character flooded the internet— particularly horror versions of Mickey. Thankfully, the current version of Mickey is still protected and out of bounds to other creators.
Mickey Mouse Funhouse season three will feature Mickey, Minnie, and their friends on an adventure through the magical doors of Funny the Funhouse, voiced by Harvey Guillén. They visit old places like the Enchanted Rainforest and the Old West and new locations like Movie Magic Land, Armenia, Korea, and India, making new friends and reuniting with familiar faces like Huey, Dewey, and Louie.
