Richard Dreyfuss Is Back In The World Of Shark Thrillers With ‘Into The Deep’

49 years after appearing in Jaws, Richard Dreyfuss is co-starring alongside Scout Taylor-Compton and Stuart Townsend in the new shark thriller Into The Deep. The soon-to-be-released film by director Christian Sesma promises to deliver underwater thrill and suspense to viewers.

The film writers Chad Law and Josh Ridgway have previously collaborated on several movies like The Flood (2023), Dolph Lundgren’s action-packed Section 8 (2022), the mystery movie Miss Willoughby And The Haunted Bookshop (2021), and Howlers (2019).

The synopsis reads that Into The Deep is about “a group of divers searching for sunken treasure (who) witness the murder of drug dealers by modern-day pirates, but a killer great white is determined not to let any of them escape its waters.”

Richard plays the role of Seamus and is also joined by Jon Seda, AnnaMaria Demara, Ron Smoorenburg, Lorena Sarria, Callum McGowan, Maverick Kang Jr, Tom O’Connell, Tofan Pirani, and Quinn P Hensley. The great white shark would likely be realized using CGI as Richard once said the effects from Jaws would be improved for newer audiences.

Richard is perfect for the role

The head of content for Daily Jaws, Dean Newman, noted that it has been a long time coming for Richard to finally “head back to the world of shark cinema.”

“Quint actor Robert Shaw capitalized on his success of Jaws in another Peter Benchley adaptation, The Deep, just two years later, so it is a surprise that it has taken Dreyfuss this long,” he said.

He added that casting Richard will also interest Jaws’ fans and give the viewership a “bigger boost.” “With a shiver of shark films set to be released again this year, the kudos of having one of the crew of the Orca onboard the production and— no matter if the film is good or bad— this was not a casting accident as it will certainly make it stand out from the crowd,” he added.
