Reba McEntire Sings Wynonna Judd Cover With ‘The Voice’ Finalists Like No One Else On Earth

Season 24 of The Voice wrapped up with a bang. Reba McEntire returned to The Voice this season and she closed off the finale joined by her two finalists in singing “No One Else on Earth” by legendary country artist Wynonna Judd.

The finale aired on Tuesday, December 19 and saw McEntire with two finalists making it to that stage of the competitive show: they are Ruby Leigh and Jacquie Roar. McEntire performed a separate duet of the same song with each of them and their choice of track was especially meaningful as Wynonna joined The Voice this season to be a Mega Mentor. How did this powerful alliance play out?

The Voice has had several icons of the music industry serve as Mega Mentors for its competitors; McEntire, John Legend, and Gwen Stefani all held that title before joining the program as coaches. Back in late October, it was confirmed that Wynonna would be a Mega Mentor as the remaining singers readied themselves for a three-way knockout that would kick off on November 6.

Mega Mentors primarily help contestants sharpen their musical skills. Sometimes, they will advice singers about their pitch, presentation, and other technical elements. As a Mega Mentor, Wynonna Judd makes sure to focus on a more obscure but just as crucial area: nerves. She always assures her charges that nerves do happen, even to six-time Grammy nominees like her.

“I have struggled over the years with performer’s anxiety to the point where it’s been debilitating and so, I get it,” she admitted. “I understand it. I come from it.” To help herself when she falls into that frightening mindset, she chants to herself, “My peace begins with me, my peace begins with me.”

Well, the singers of The Voice proved that they’ve been taking her advice to heart and presented a very powerful performance with level heads on their shoulders.

Released in 1992, “No One Else on Earth” was written by Jill Colucci, Stewart Harris and Sam Lorber and recorded by Wynonna Judd. Following its release, the track rocketed to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs, as well as Canada’s Country Tracks (RPM).

McEntire and the pair of artists, with the “Fancy” singer performing with each competitor one at a time, did Wynonna’s song justice. Each woman honored the original song while also playing into her own respective strengths. In particular, Roar showcased just how far she’s come as a competitor and artist, comfortably showing off her fullest capabilities, making this doubly a tribute to Wynnonna and the gifts she has to impart.
