Reba McEntire dedicated a heartfelt rendition of “Seven Minutes In Heaven” to her late mother on the most recent episode of The Voice. Jacqueline “Jackie” McEntire died in 2020 at the age of 93 after a long battle with cancer.
The song expresses Reba’s imagination of a seven-minute visit to heaven where she gets together with Jackie one last time, trading off a conversation with Johnny Cash and serenades from Elvis Presley for that moment. Reba released the single written by Olivia Rudeen and Matt Wynn as part of her latest album, Not That Fancy.
Reba’s emotions are palpable as she sings the touching lyrics of the song, which includes, “How’s the fishing up there/ Have you been getting our prayers/ We’ve been sending them every night. Oh, I miss you, mama.” Like her mother, Reba’s father, who passed away in 2014, also received a tribute track from her.
Reba dedicated “Just Like Them Horses,” written by Liz Hengber and Tommy Lee James, to Clark McEntire, who was a National Rodeo Hall of Famer before his passing. Jackie had made an appearance in the music video released in 2015.
“I’ve been so touched seeing all the videos y’all have been making using ‘Seven Minutes in Heaven’ in dedication to your loved ones. I dedicated this song to my Mama,” the country singer wrote. “She took a trip to heaven in 2020 and I’d give anything to visit her up there for seven minutes.”
Those who found the song relatable were grateful to Reba for the emotional piece, taking to her social media to share their thoughts. “Brought tears to my eyes as I too remembered my grandma and my mom both in Heaven,” someone commented. “Reba, your song had me sobbing. Beautiful! Lost my Aunt Mary, my Daddy’s baby sister, we were extremely close, she was a very special lady. Would love to have seven minutes with her again,” another added.
