Charlie Sheen Claims He Is Almost Six Years Sober

Charlie Sheen told People in a recent interview that he is nearly six years sober since recognizing how addiction affected his parenting. The actor looks forward to marking his sobriety anniversary next month, confirming that his lifestyle has become very consistent. “It’s all about single dad stuff and raising my 14-year-old twin boys Max and Bob,” he said.

Sheen is a father of four from two previous marriages to ex-wife Denise Richards and, more recently, Brooke Mueller. He was suddenly motivated to quit alcohol and drugs after a moment with one of his adult girls, whom she shares with Denise. “The next morning, I just stopped,” he recalled.

What prompted Sheen to go sober?

Sheen reconsidered his life when he found himself in jeopardy and was unable to drive his daughter to her appointment because he “already had a couple of pops that day,” prompting him to call a friend for help. “We got her there on time, but it broke my heart, because she was in the backseat,” he said, “and I could just tell she was thinking, ‘Why isn’t dad driving?’ So I got home and sat with that for the rest of the day.”

He attempted a month free of drugs and alcohol, which turned out successful. “I was, like, ‘I’m going to give it a month, just see if I feel any better, and if my interactions with those that are closest to me improve,'” Charlie said. He picked up pace one day at a time and never looked back. “Then it got traction. I had momentum,” he added.

Sheen’s new lifestyle

Sheen’s new routine involves his kids to keep him on track. He starts his day watching the news, getting a workout in, and answering emails, after which he wakes his kids for their morning routine. “There was just instant evidence that this was the side I needed to be on,” he said of his healthier life. “I couldn’t be in denial about it anymore.”

Besides fixing his health and parenting, Sheen is also looking outward to mend his broken relationships, including his bond with Two and A Half Men creator Chuck Lorre after twelve years. Sheen got fired from the sitcom for his derogatory remarks at Chuck, which he later admitted to regretting. “There were 55 different ways for me to handle that situation, and I chose number 56,” Sheen confessed back in 2021.

He recently appeared on Chuck’s new series, Bookie, as a guest, after they both decided to let bygones be bygones. “That friendship just suddenly seemed to be there again,” Chuck said. “I don’t want to be too mawkish about it, but it was healing.”
