Cher Is Not Excited About ‘Believe’s’ 25th Anniversary

Last month was the 25th anniversary of Cher’s hit song, “Believe,” however the singer is not excited about it. She told Today’s anchor, Harry Smith, that it “pisses the f— out of me” while reflecting on the classic. “It’s not that amazing, okay?” Cher said.

Cher further revealed that she was not enthusiastic about getting older either after Harry asked, “So you and age, you’re not friends?” “No! My mother didn’t mind, but I do. I hate it,” she responded. They chatted about her new and first-ever holiday album, Christmas, which she released last month.

Besides being Cher’s first festive album, Christmas is the first to feature collaborations with other music icons like Darlene Love, Stevie Wonder, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Bublé and Tyga. “I have never had anybody on any album,” she said while sharing her reluctance towards calling Wonder to work with her.

She was nervous to have the legend on board but went for it anyway with positive results. “He said, ‘Consider it done,’and then I ran around my room, I swear to God, I jumped up and down on my bed screaming, ‘Stevie Wonder’s gonna be on my album.’” she recalled.

More firsts

Cher is revisiting the idea of sharing her journey via a memoir, which she first mentioned in 2017. She recently told Jimmy Fallon on his show that getting vulnerable with some parts of her life has been challenging, hence her hesitance. “I just totally chickened out,” she said.

The Good Times actress confessed she omitted some stories which she now has to “man up” and revisit before releasing the book. “I didn’t put in some things that needed to be in,” she admitted. “And they’re not comfortable, but they need to be in…I’ve lived too long and done too much and so it’s like it should be the encyclopedia.”
