Chevy Chase was present at the recent Christmas Vacation event at Shea’s Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, New York, where he arrived on stage in a wheelchair after the screening of 1989’s National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Chevy, who played Clark Griswold in the classic, got off his wheelchair during the Q and A session and began walking towards fans, but he soon slipped, as seen in a video shared by TMZ. With help from his wife, Jayni, and the moderator, Chevy got up and made for his seat upstage.

The audience felt sorry for him but was amused by his smartwatch going off after the fall. The Saturday Night Live alum continued the show with an icepack on his bruised knee and took photos with fans afterward. Reports say Chevy is “doing just fine, apart from a bruised knee,” from the accident resulting from the stage lights and his misjudgment of “the edge of the stage when walking out.”

The 80-year-old’s recent appearances in a wheelchair, including an event in Philadelphia with Sylvester Stallone, have sparked concern among fans. However, his manager confirmed that he is in good health and will continue touring. “His tour, ‘A Live Conversation With Chevy Chase,’ has been selling out across the country,” Chevy’s rep stated.

Chevy does not ‘need rest’

Due to constant traveling on tour, Chevy uses the wheelchair at the airport but does not need rest. “His tour is extensive during the holiday season,” his rep explained. Chevy moves around with his wife to give behind-the-scenes details about the Christmas classic while answering fans’ questions.

Chevy’s last known health scare in 2021 landed him in the hospital for five weeks due to near-fatal heart failure. He referenced the experience on television last year, joking that doctors removed his heart. “Didn’t need it,” he said. “It’s much better.”
